Prime Day is giving me a very good excuse to talk about cookbooks.

There are a LOT of cookbooks on sale right now, but I’m not interested in recommending a book just because Amazon knocked a few dollars off the price. A good deal isn’t necessarily a good cookbook.

So I went through the Prime Day deals and pulled out some of my favorites — books that are already sitting on my own shelf, that I’ve actually cooked from, and that I would genuinely recommend to another home cook.

These are the cookbooks I’d be excited to buy at their Prime Day prices — because I already know they’re worth the shelf space.

Half Baked Harvest: Quick & Cozy

Teighan Gerard

⭐ YFIF Rating: 4/5

Why I think it’s worth buying:
While the book claims the recipes are for all seasons, the dishes skew towards being heartier. But it’s October, and there are lots of goodies in this book to cozy up with. (Or, if you’re in Texas, to look forward to in December).

Best for: People who look forward to fall for the food.

⭐ YFIF Rating: 3.5/5

Why I think it’s worth buying:
I’ll be honest: not every recipe in this book has been a winner. Normally I might put it in the “Borrow” category. But for the price on Prime Day, I’d say there are enough good recipes that it’s worth buying.

Best for: Healthy eaters with busy weeknights
